How to Give a Hooray
The four moves on a single page. Print it for the fridge, the break room door, the bulletin board—anywhere people read standing up.
DownloadThe 30-Second Hooray
Stop. Notice. Say what you were already thinking. That is a Hooray.

The four moves
Smile and open with “Can I tell you something really quickly?” Then:
Name the specific thing you saw—not “you’re great,” but what you actually watched happen.
Say what it meant, or what it made possible. This is the moment they’ll remember.
Mark it. “Thank you. You deserve a Hooray.” Then hand over a card or a sticker.
Tell one other person, or invite them to give a Hooray of their own.
Not close enough to say it in person?
Give is the act. Send is how it travels when you cannot be in the room. Same four moves, same thirty seconds—it just arrives by email, and the person you are Hooraying gets a page that reveals it.
Digital Hoorays count too—they roll into the same total on the tracker.
What makes it land
Recognize an action, effort, or choice—not something they own or how they look.
Help them understand the difference they made for you or someone else.
Need inspiration?
“I know we haven’t met, but I noticed how kindly you treated everyone. It made my day, and I wanted to make sure it did not go unnoticed.”
“You make students feel seen. That is something they will remember long after they leave your classroom. Thank you.”
“You quietly keep this team moving. I see how much you do, and I appreciate you.”
“You are someone people can count on. I did not want to keep that gratitude to myself.”
Scared? I was too.
“I worried I would sound awkward. Then I gave 25 Hoorays in five days and learned something important: people are not looking for perfect words. They are grateful that someone noticed.”
